Prayer List/Journal

Postby tarasimone » Sun Dec 06, 2009 4:12 pm

Hi all, I'm wondering if those of you who use a prayer list would be able to share the format that it takes... and how you go about keeping it up to date, and 'clutter' free.

I am becoming more and more aware of my need to be organised in prayer - partly so I do it, and partly so I fulfill the promise "I'll pray for you".

I have a weak prayer life... I want this to change. I can see that lack of prayer = a "I can do it on my own" attitude.

Thanks!

(I edited my original post from journal to list, because I think that explains what I'm waNting better!)

Re: Prayer Journal

Hi Tara :D

I do keep a prayer journal and have done for some years now and I find it a huge blessing because I can look back and see God's hand in my life. I guess I feel that if the God of the universe is going to speak to you, you might as well write it down!

I'm not aware of any particular 'formats' as such. Some of my journals have been gifts from others and have bible verses on the pages, or room to write dates etc - but for the most part my journals have just been hardcover A5 lined books. When I have my quiet time, I just write the date at the top of the page and journal as I need to. I do have a group of people I pray for each day, but I dont write them down everyday. When I begin to pray for someone (such as someone posting a prayer need on Sof) then I would jot down their name and a brief few words of why I am praying - but I dont go into huge detail because that is time consuming and I'd rather spend the time actually praying ;)

Most of my journalling comes when I am in a hard place and need to pour it all out to God, or I want to journal a praise point or answer to prayer, or whenever God says something. If I am reading the Word and God shows me something that really speaks to me then I would probably journal that as well. Lately I have started taking my journal to church or any conferences I go to because it saves me having lots of booklets and papers lying around - anything significant I would put into the journal, because my journals do get kept and looked at again and again.

At the end of the day, a journal is between you and God. It isnt for anyone else, so you can be as free as you want to be in it. So my advice would be to use whatever format works for you - because it has to work for you, and you alone. :D

Hope that helps?
