Fruits of the Spirit

Postby Sammy » Sun May 31, 2009 7:44 am

There's been a little bit of chat about the Fruits of the Spirit this week which has prompted me to print out an activity sheet for my kids on the matter. It dealt with not just the fruits of the spirit but what Satan's opposite of each individual fruit was. I thought this would be very helpful for them in recognising not only when God was in control, but also when Satan was attacking them and consequently when sin was ruling their life.
So I thought others may like to know the "opposites" as I also found this very helpful.

So here they are ....

Fruit of the Spirit vs Satan’s (Sin's) Opposites

Love - 1 Corinthinans 13
vs
Fear - 2 Timothy 1:7 Worry caused by the presence of danger

Joy - Nehemiah 8:10 A very glad feeling. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
vs
Anger - Ephesians 4:26-27 A feeling of displeasure and hostility.

Peace - John 14:27 Freedom from war, harmony, serenity, calm, quiet.
vs
Turmoil, - 1 Corinthians 14:33 A very excited and confused condition.
Torment,
Confusion

Longsuffering - Numbers 14:18 Bearing trouble patiently for a long time.
vs
Impatience Annoyance, restlessness.

Kindness Sympathetic, gentle, generous.
vs
Hatred - Matthew 24:12 Strong dislike.

Goodness State of being good; virtue, kindness.
vs
Revenge, - Romans 12:19-20 To inflict injury in return. To feel or show hurt.
Resentment

Faithfulness True and loyal follower.
vs
Unfaithfulness; - Mark 13:12 Failing to stay loyal, or keep a vow or promise.
Back-stabbing

Gentleness Kind, patient, not violent, tame.
vs
Violence, - Proverbs 29:9 Physical force used to injure or damage. Unjust harm done.
Abuse;
Rage

Self-Control Control of one’s own emotions, desires and actions.
vs
Selfishness - 2 Timothy 3:1-5 Too much concerned with one’s own interests and welfare.

Sorry about the layout, i'm still trying to figure out the codes???
Hope this is helpful to everyone!

This is great Sammy thank you.

We are studyng Romans at the mo so there has been lots of talk about sin. One of the ways that we decided to use to help us put on the new person was to practise the fruits of the Spirit, so to see in print the oposites to each fruit is very helpful in my praying and confessing my sins. So, for example, when I am angry I need to pray for the spirit of Joy.

I think I might even print this list as a reminder.

Thanks for doing that Sammy. I have printed this off also to help me to pray for the right help, and to recognise the sins also.

Thanks, Sam; that is very helpful! It is clearly written and I like how it has the Scriptures with it as well! xx

thanks Sam :)
this is so good to be aware of - so often when we are trying to correct our children we focus on the negative...
"stop being nasty to your sister" instead of " you need to be gentle and show kindness to your sister"
I pick on the negative way to often instead of encouraging the positive side...

Thanks for finding this thread and reminding us of this.

I have been thinking of designing a simple embroidered (backstitch) "fruits of the spirit" quilt/wallhanging over the last week, as a tutorial/BOM (block of the month) on my blog.
