Bulk meat available for Brissy area girls

Postby Sally » Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:00 pm

John and Sam in Gympie have been told by Sam's Dad to reduce the number of cows, so they are available for sale or they will be going to the market.

My sister and husband have decided that they will buy a cow and have it butchered. It's about 230kgs of meat and to buy the cow and then pay for butchering is a total of $1200. That is to have all the cuts of meat, rump steak, roasts, eye fillets etc, all the expensive cuts plus the mince and sausages etc. It works out that you are paing about $4-$5 a kilo. You can let the butcher decide the best way or we can send you a meat chart and you can specify what cuts of meat you want.

We found that a whole beast lasts our family about 5 months. (that's basically 7 people, plus a steady stream of visitors)

If a whole cow is too much, perhaps you might know people that would like to go 1/2's or 1/3's with you.

Let me know if you're interested as I think we'll be organising to have it done in few weeks time. You'd need to go up to Gympie to collect the meat.

I'm interested!

A couple of friends might be interested in going in with me too, unless someone from here wants to share. I don't mind a drive to Gympie either.

Wish I was closer Sal - we used to buy our meat like this - works out much cheaper.

Maybe when anyone/everyone comes to Gympie we could all catch up??

I'll ask around and let you know. One cow is too much for all of us, but if I could find some others to share - that would be great!

I've found quite a few who are interested, possibly 3 or more cows. Have about 6-8 who are interested?

Will try and email you about it.

Yep, still interested, but how much freezer space will I need? I have a reasonable sized upright freezer. So can I just have some of a cow? 1/4 or would a 1/2 be too much! I can't visualise it...
